Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi Unboxing

I received a Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi from school for my Photography classes that I’m going to be taking starting Monday. Here are some unboxing pictures for your viewing pleasure:

I’m a native Nikon user (fear not Canon-lovers, I’m not here to bash you) so this is all very new to me. Everything seems so foreign and backwards at first glance: The buttons and icons are pretty different compared to what I’m used to, however it’s probably a good idea to familiarize myself with both brands anyway. No such thing as too much experience! :) A few things I don’t like right off the bat are…

1. The lack of clarity in the [very small] viewfinder; it’s very difficult to tell if the camera is in focus or not.

2. It has a very cheap plasticky feel to it.

3. The on/off switch is in a weird location.

4. Sensor cleaning system is terrible. I just got the camera yesterday and theres already tons of dust on the sensor.

I may be biased, but I definitely won’t be switching to Canon any time soon. This camera makes me appreciate my Nikon D50 & Nikon D300 so much more! Here are a few test shots taken with the Canon:

People’s Choice Award Results

I know you all have been dying to hear the results of the People’s Choice Award for the past four days! Well the votes have been tallied and the winner and nineteen finalists are featured on the front page of Artists Wanted.

Unfortunately, I did not win the People’s Choice Award, however, I received the title for the 5th most popular portfolio in the entire competition, with a total of 1,047 votes and an average rating of 4.9 stars. The Grand Prize winner will not be announced until after July 7th, due to the amount of submissions received. In addition, there will be a massive art party in Brooklyn, NY this Saturday where my photos will be displayed in front of several hundred people! I would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for me and helped promote my portfolio, because I could not have received 5th place without you! Without your support I would have not been recognized for my photography, and I am very thankful for all the exposure this contest has given me! I will give you all an update as soon as I hear more!

The Judging Begins!

The deadline for submissions has passed and the call for entry is now CLOSED, which only means judging will begin soon! The only thing we can do now is vote like hell and wait!

“If you have a profile in competition, you have until midnight this Friday to collect votes for the People’s
Choice award … We will be announcing the People’s Choice winner next week and there will be a special showing of the top 20 highest voted portfolios Saturday, June 28th @ Dubai:Brooklyn,” according to an email I received in my Inbox around noon.

If you haven’t done so already, please vote!! And if you have been, KEEP VOTING!! Feel free to IM-Spam your friend or email it to your Mom & Dad or little sibling, but make sure everyone you know votes 5 stars!!!
